Warmed apples, cinnamon, sugar, and a crunchy but soft baked topping. Vanilla ice cream makes this super rich but vanilla yogurt goes amazing with this too as a “lighter” option.

Ingredients

For the apple filling

  • 5 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • ¾ cups white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened

For the topping

  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F and grease a 9 inch pie dish with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all filling ingredients, mix, then pour into the pie dish and set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, mix flour, white sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the softened butter and beaten egg into the bowl with the dry topping ingredients and combine to form sticky dough.
  5. Drop spoon-fulls of the sticky dough on top of the apple filling in the pie dish until mostly covered. Leaving some gaps is okay.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes or until topping is golden and crispy.
