Warmed apples, cinnamon, sugar, and a crunchy but soft baked topping. Vanilla ice cream makes this super rich but vanilla yogurt goes amazing with this too as a “lighter” option.
Ingredients
For the apple filling
- 5 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- ¾ cups white sugar
- 2 Tbsp flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp vanilla
- ¼ cup water
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
For the topping
- ½ cup flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- ½ tsp. baking powder
- ¼ tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350° F and grease a 9 inch pie dish with butter.
- In a large bowl, combine all filling ingredients, mix, then pour into the pie dish and set aside.
- In a separate large bowl, mix flour, white sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the softened butter and beaten egg into the bowl with the dry topping ingredients and combine to form sticky dough.
- Drop spoon-fulls of the sticky dough on top of the apple filling in the pie dish until mostly covered. Leaving some gaps is okay.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until topping is golden and crispy.
